AFOODS Group is a black-owned brand operating in a sector dominated and carefully protected by European and white-owned companies. Under the motto “A Taste Journey to the Origin”, AFOODS® combines African expertise with modern techniques to produce upcycled food innovations such as cocoa fruit juice, cocoa snacks, energy drinks made from cocoa bean shells or energy drinks made from cocoa fruit juice or coffee fruit under various brands. By upcycling the cocoa fruit, coffee fruit and cashew apple, AFOODS® offers revolutionary food innovations combined with an experience that reconnects consumers with the roots of these foods.

Why we are working on AFOODS Group

The foods we love are often associated with ugly realities. This is particularly true of cocoa, coffee and cashew-based products. What do these commodities have in common? They are commodities, mostly grown in Africa, and their well-known ingredients are very popular with consumers. However, these commodities are only partially exploited by modern manufacturing industries, despite the high potential of the raw materials as a whole or their by-products (known as waste) for people and nature. As an African migrant with a lot of work experience in many European countries, our founder decided already in 2017 and 2018 to reverse this trend by combining our African know-how with modern processing techniques to create food innovations and the joy of consuming them. In this way, our founder has been one of the first in Europe to show that cocoa can be used to make more than just chocolate.

What AFOODS Group offer to Consumers

AFOODS Group is an umbrella brand for a portfolio of beverages and convenience foods with various subsidiary brands. AFOODS Group offers you innovative upcycled food products made from the cocoa fruit, the coffee fruit and the cashew apple. By ingeniously combining African know-how with modern processing techniques, AFOODS products are highly original and give you the power to show resilience and adaptability. Above all, AFOODS Group products are up to 10 times healthier and cheaper than conventional cocoa, coffee or cashew products. AFOODS' first innovation, now called PECOLEDO, was created in 2018: Innovative and healthy drinks made from cocoa shells and cocoa juice. Based on traditional African knowledge, our founder succeeded in creating and marketing the world's first innovation from the so-called waste products of traditional cocoa processing. Buttom line, Our AFOODS brand and product offers you the best possible value from the cocoa fruit, the coffee fruit or the coffee fruit, while authentically feed three birds with one scone: Health, sustainability and creating new sources of income for farmers.

Upcycling Cocoa bean shells as core expertise

Thanks to our unique market position and exceptional work, we have built up a wealth of expertise over the years. For example, we are the market leader in processing cocoa bean shells into food innovations. Cocoa shells are left over from the traditional processing of cocoa beans into chocolate or chocolate-like products and can be difficult to handle. Many chocolate manufacturers use the shells as garden mulch, where they act as organic fertiliser, or simply burn them.  The cocoa shells can easily be used as a base for drinks. But to make them edible without destroying the high fibre content, or to extract other components, they need to be processed in an innovative way. To do this, we have combined traditional African methods with European processing techniques.

Through years of research, analysis and application examples, we at AFOODS Group have gathered a huge amount of data that has enabled us to develop new processes and methods for using cocoa bean shells. Based on this knowledge, we at AFOODS Group process cocoa bean shells in a way that preserves or enhances the nutritional value of our finished products. At AFOODS Group, we are very proud to be the first global brand to put a smile on consumers' faces with both non-dairy cocoa-based soft drinks and cocoa-based energy drink substitutes with caffeine and theobromine from cocoa bean shells. In doing so, the founder of the AFOODS Group has managed to find new ways of transforming cocoa bean shells into food within his organisation. These innovative methods are also the cornerstone for the ongoing development of new ways to use coffee and other fruit shells.

AFOODS Founder

AFOODS Group Founder is Dayog KABORE. Dayog is an award-winning food entrepreneur, multilingual consultant and political scientist. He’s worked in Africa and Europe as a research fellow and consultant on sustainable economy and development, regional security and development governance, among others, before embarking on entrepreneurship in 2018. He say:

My deep understanding of the cocoa industry, international relations and sustainable economic development, the great inspiration from practices of African farmers, the deep belief in African innovation spirit and finally the combined demand for healthy cocoa products helped me discover a new niche with our first cacao fruit -based brand.

Dayog KABORE

In addition to his work as a food entrepreneur, particularly in the field of circular economy through the use of African traditional knowledge, Dayog KABORE works on racial equity through various initiatives. Even though his work as a food entrepreneur takes up a lot of his time, he still enjoys providing consultation on the above-mentioned topics and now also on food innovation management.
